Hey to all. I love the format of droneflyers and it's straightforward guides and reviews are the best around for this genre of rc flying! I just wanted to say thanks and hello to all. I hope to contribute!

    Good evening from Wisconsin.
I have been interested in RC since I was a kid but it was a recent purchase of a small, inexpensive quad that created a snowball effect and my recent purchase of the QX3. I had my eye on the DJI PVII but read and heard nothing but bad reviews of their customer service, although nothing but great reviews of the product. So decided on the Yuneec Q500... and waited... and waited... so nixed that idea and got the Blade 350 QX3 which seemed to do everything the DJI did other than waypoints, and almost everything the Q500 did other than "follow me". I do like the radio of the Q500, however and the convenience but can always upgrade from the DX4 to a more advanced radio... one that gives me the information read-out and separate gimble control.
Looking forward to getting to know some of you and ask, and maybe answer, questions as I get further into this.

Hello all you guys and gals, Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi. Don't have much RC experience, but I'm getting up to speed. I've been flying a Hubsan Quads x4 for a few months, and then after watching some cool fpv racing vids on youtube decided that I need to get in on that action. Just finished my first build and looking for like minded flyers to chat with. Thanks for the great forums.

Hey everyone. Stephen Ramsden here. I am a retired air traffic controller and now solar astronomer. I am also the Founder/Director of the world's largest volume astronomy education nonprofit. The Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project.
I have 2 AEE AP10 Turok drones and have made every rookie mistake possible with these drones including multiple toe curling crashes, fly aways, bad calibrations, mixed up remote control signals, etc..

Im now looking to better understand the technology but don't see any information whatsoever on the net about this model drone. There is no customer support from the retailer or from the manufacturer other than an online pdf of the manual already included.
Im interested in getting a more dependable and longer range wifi signal and learning how to balance the copter and get less rocking and swaying in the video..:)

Glad to be here and hope to learn a lot.

The Toruk is the same as some other private label units - for example the Blackbird from Adorama
    http://www.adorama.com/AIRBBX10.html?adver=new&

I don't think that will help you must though! I think you will be unable to capture stable video due to lack of a gimbal. A gimbal is the magic part that makes the copter like a tripod in the sky.

Still photography is nice - I do mostly stills myself because they are easier for people to see without them making the commitment to hit the play button.

As far as a longer signal, it looks like they sell a "range extender" for it which they claim adds 1000 feet to the signal.

Hi all. Glad to have found this place. It was a toss up between this and quadcopter forum.com but I went with this one. I'm really new to this and haven't gone all gung-ho as a noob to this new found area of fun just yet - instead I've purchased a Hubsan Quads X4 H107, a Cheerson cx 10 (both of which are cheap and currently in the mail, yet to be delivered) and today I saw someone selling a Syma X5 for ridiculously cheap (£25). Should keep me busy until I get the hang of it all! In the meantime I've been trying to familiarise myself with Quadcopter FX sim on the IPad. Seems quite good but I'm sure the officianados among you can tell me if its pretty accurate or not? Any tips appreciated. The only flying experience I have is with several Syma Helicopters. QCs look far more exciting.

    Thanks

Welcome = I think the SIM's are somewhat accurate but only go so far because there is no wind- or in the case of indoor flying, not enough furniture and obstacles. I think the Hubsan Quads will be a great trainer - you should get the prop guards if you can can...that will definitely help in the beginning!

Thanks WM - I will go ahead and order that - I won't even attempt to fly it without the guard. The guard reviews on Amazon mostly advise not to fly it without the guard if you're new to QCs - and for a couple of quid I figure its worth it.

Been on this forum for about a month. Just getting into Quads and learning to fly. So far I have a Flipside and HeliMax 230SIcam. My plan is to learn to fly and then get something of a higher grade.

Greetings all from Michigan, USA. I've been reading the posts on this forum for a while and trying to learn how to fly with various results. I have a Cheerson CX-10 that has been crashed into about everything in my house. I also have a U-818 that is much easier to fly. I still crash it but not as much. I am getting a kick out of the manuals that come with these things. I think someone needs to hire a translator. Now that our winter is finally leaving, I'll be getting outside to really work on learning to fly. By the way, is 63 too old to start playing with RC toys? Some of my friends think so.

Hah - I'm 61 and playing with lots of toys. We had a guy on the forum who was 84, but he was getting too old to chase his machine down....still, he got something going.

So you're saying we are never too old to start playing and having fun is not just for the young wipper snappers!

Hi, I haven't bought a quad yet, but after years of flying normal copters and planes I have come across your forum. I would like to offer a service to users who like to customise or replace parts of their quadcopters (or any other models really) I have experience in 3D modelling software, and 3D printing technology, and have recently started a business using these technologies.
I am interested to know if anyone feels there is a need for 3D services, both in making custom widgets to allow items to be used on their quadcopters, and in replacing parts of their quadcopters. I know of the benefits (I have already printed some parts for friends) , and have experience of the huge cost that come companies can charge for these services.
I want to offer a fair honest service that is available to all. If anyone has any comments or would to get in touch let me know. If you have the idea for what you want, then I have the skills to model and produce the bits required without the huge costs.
    Thanks for reading.

There are certainly a lot of folks doing 3D widgets - our own moderatore (ICE) I think does some.
It seems the best sales outlets are ebay, shapeways, etc.....

I think the key is coming up with a better mousetrap at better prices. I bought a 3D printed lens hood for my Phantom- it was quite expensive, but I understand why the pricing is high....by the time a vendor makes, bills, ships, etc. a product you can't sell it too cheaply.

I think I paid about 12 for this tiny accessory - also bought some others. Yesterday I was thinking of a new idea for better (or extension of) landing gear for the Phantom- the factory legs suck.

So, yeah, if someone made the lens hood where I could buy 4 of them (they get bumped and break, etc.) for $15 instead of one for $12, I think it would be a hit. You can pretty much get free advertising by posting on various forums, having giveaways, etc. - so very little in marketing costs (just time) would be needed.

I'm an inventor myself (have various patents, etc.), but am not a designer or draftsman, etc....so I have good ideas, but rely on others to bring them to reality. I just noticed that a big manufacturer (Belkin) just brought a device I thought of and designed 10 years ago...to market. I didn't patent it, so all is fair.

Good Luck. What you need to do is collect ideas and work on the ones with the most promise.

Thanks for that, if you want any help in producing models and drawings for any ideas let me know. I know what you mean about being able to supply multiple parts instead of a single one, the beauty of 3D printing is that invariably it doesn't cost that much extra to print a few extra components at the same time. The actual cost of the ABS material is cheap, and I have myself been shocked when I have looked at trying to get 3D prints of my models done. I have realised that on average the markup on commercial 3D printing is around 300% which I think is unfair to the people who will actually make the most benefit from 3D printing. I would be happy to work with anyone if they have any ideas they would like modelled and printed (if the design is a real success and thousands are needed that's when you'd need to look at getting some injection moulding done, which on large runs proves more cost effective than 3D printing)

Wow I'm just a little fish in a big pond! Hi Tyrone from England here. Drone enthusiast, novice and amateur! Oddly enough, I used to experiment with building helos and quadcopters back in the 80's and am surprised it's taken this long to "take off" excuse the pun. These days I'm back into building and creating my own fleet of personal attack and defend drones for when the zombie apocalypse comes. So you can think of me as the Murdock from the A-Team. Cheers and see you then.

hey everyone. Im looking for a drone I can control Via on screen. I will be in a location with no cell reception of any kind. Can someone recommend a drone suitable or what is the technical term for a drone that can be controlled via "on screen" where there is no data, cell service etc
