Video is a very complicated subject - but I just discovered the following today, so I figured I would share it. Many times it's difficult to get a still shot (frame grab) from a HD video. I often just take a shot of the screen - but my screen is lower res than 1080 video, so I am taking a smaller shot. So, in quicktime - it's as simple as this. 1. In Quicktime, play the video to the frame you wish to grab. 2. Under the Edit menu, choose copy - the frame will be copied into the computer RAM (memory).... 3. Open any image program (I use photoshop elements) and create a new blank file or document as large or larger than the video size (1920x1080 is HD). 4. Hit Paste under the edit menu and the video grab will fill the window 5. Save the new image file - I use Save for Web in PS Elements and jpg.
