Hello, I live in the suburbs, surrounded by very tall trees however, and was contemplating a quadcopter with a mounted video camera. My initial investigation shows flight times of around 5 minutes, and was more of thinking hours, not minutes. Could someone please explain to me whether this is true?

    many thanks

Your toy-grade drones will net you 5-8 minutes of flight time. If you go with a toy-grade drone, make sure it is one that has removable batteries and pick a few extra up. They are inexpensive, and will give you some additional flight time. If you get into the higher end models, you're not going to see much better than 30 minutes of flight time. Again, purchase additional batteries to keep you in the air longer.

Personally, I am an adventure/explorer type flyer. I purchased a DJI Phantom 3 Pro to see the world from a different view point. I enjoy taking aerial videos/photos, but I do not consider myself a photographer. I have two batteries (23-25 min per battery), and once onsite, I rarely use up both batteries at a single location. I explore a little, get those cool pictures/videos from an angle I would not usually get to see the world from, pack up, and go home. The 20-40 minutes I am in the air really seems longer than it sounds.

If you want long flight times and long range missions with a drone, join the Air Force ;)
