   Are drones smart enough to detect a location where a controller signal is coming from without GPS?

   Hmmmm.......I think most of the "headless mode" use a compass to determine approx. where the TX is - that is, the direction from where the machine is to the operator.
   
   I don't think they use signal strength in most cases.
