    Hello everyone,

I'm a graduate researcher at a university and we are looking to try and apply some of our artificial intelligent algorithms to various aspects of multi-rotor copters. I'm posting here in an attempt to gain some information on how programmable some of the prebuilt packages are. I've read about the AeroQuad flight software, and while it looks very robust in terms of how much control you gain over the system, we aren't really looking to build the physical copter if we can get away with it.

So in short, do any of the prebuilt kits offer a similar level of control over the copter systems? Is it possible to use your own flight software in place of what comes preloaded with a finished product? Specifically, we want to be able to control individual rotor speeds independently from each other. We're also hoping to have some amount of payload capacity to carry various sensor equipment.

We have a bit of a budget, but obviously the less expensive the better. We would rather pay more money for a sturdier kit that will last longer.

Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks.

Without a doubt, the best system for private use is from http://3drobotics.com/

APM 2.6 controller and its software will do everything you ask and more. Being "open source" will allow you to custom tailor it for your application (s).
