Lets call one other market UAV's can fit in "Mission Specific" (A.K.A Military UAV's). These are UAV's that are built for the military on as a custom build on a standard platform.

Missions include, but not limited to:

Scouting, find out whats "over that hill" before sending troops or equipment into possible harms way.
Surveillance, anything from just watching an area to preliminary mapping out a mission.
Target acquisition, identify targets and / or designate and "lock on" for other mission equipment.
Communication, point to point or relay for weak signal communication areas
Search / Rescue / Aid, find lost troops or equipment, carry / deliver items to enable self rescue or aid, some larger UAV's even have the capability to recover the troop or equipment.

The list is larger, but these are a few that Mission Specific UAV's are already being used for.
Cost of these UAV's range from $2000 to a million or more.

While your Blog is geared more to the civilian side, it should be noted that a lot of the hobbyist UAV's technology was created by a military need.
