I've only dipped my toe into this hobby - even been neglecting it a bit as other shiny things occupy my time. But the FAA seems to have reupped on their demands (see :https://www.faa.gov/news/press_releases/news_story.cfm?newsId=20515) . What does this mean for recreational drone flying? I'm only out to fly mine a little over the trees, not to top out at 1000ft that my X8C has been shown to be capable of. With the new rules, would I be forced to shell out hundreds to maintain flight readiness like this suggests or is it only for the larger professional quads?
According to the release, "The new rule, which takes effect in late August, offers safety regulations for unmanned aircraft drones weighing less than 55 pounds that are conducting non-hobbyist operations." So you're fine for recreational flight. These regulations are far less onerous than the previous rules passed last summer. This is a good day for commercial UAS operation.
