So I've been kicking myself for about 2 weeks now. I made the mistake of flying my estes proto-x FPV quad outside. Although it has the maneuverability and the power to fly outside in perfect conditions, I knew better than to try and push it's range to the edge of my line of sight. I got at too high an altitude and simply lost orientation, whenever it finally descended some I regained video signal but by the time I tried to turn back I lost video signal and have no idea where it landed. Just 3 days later I took an even newer unit out to fly; once again I pushed the limits but this time it was with a much larger and considerably more powerful unit: the Ares Ethos FPV. This time though I really thought I had its boundaries within reach, but I also ended losing it as well. After looking and looking, I have never found either one. After having a handful of different -$200 quadcopters I was eager to get into FPV piloting and figured that I should try on a more affordable platform like the Ethos FPV, but I didn't factor in the whole GPS and RTH features that quads of similar size have. There is nothing wrong at all with the ethos, I just personally made novice mistakes :(. Basically now I am just wondering what to do with th e TX(s)that I still have? I would be willing to buy another unit (especially for the proto-x). I know for the ethos FPV they offer a bind n fly version for use with the same TX and 5.8ghz receiver/ lcd screen that I have. I now am saving up for either a phantom or something similar with a RTH feature, so I'm not really sure what to do with the transmitters I have for the lost quads? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
