Is it my lack of talent or am I trying to fly junk?

I own 2 quads. The first was a Blade bind and fly Nano QX. The second is an X Series 20 by Xinun that is shaped like a bat wing. I attempt to lift off and when the craft gains a foot of altitude it takes off like a rocket, lowering the throttle creates a crash.
My question: are either of these quads decent for learning and if so which one? If they are not then what is the latest and greatest. I would prefer a bind n fly only because I own more than one Spectrum 4 channel radio that came with a couple of my planes.
Don't be bashful, if I don't have the right quads please tell me and maybe even tell me what I should be looking at. and thanks in advance.

The Nano QX should be fine for learning - it has various flight modes...are you certain you set it up with your radio to use the simplest mode?
    (stability mode).

I'm not familiar with the throttle curve adjustments on your radio...but...

This whole thing may be caused by the BNF situation...that is, it may be easier to learn on a RTF model which comes stock with the TX and all the right settings.

I don't know about the X series - but we usually suggest the Syma X11, the Hubsan Quads x4 or the Syma X5 as great beginner machines. Keep in mind that most all of these machines are harder to fly than GPS camera quads so you are learning more than you need to know.
When I started with the Hubsan Quads X4 I destroyed the first one before I even got the hang of it. Then I tried a Syma X1 which is only 3 axis - got the hang of it eventually and then got another Hubsan Quads and flew it like a pro.

One little hint - you have to take off to at least 2-3 feet high to reduce ground effect....quads always act strange when close to the floor.
Also, take it outside on a calm day and fly it over grass. That way you can really see what is going on without the limits of walls and ceilings.

You offered a great deal of information I had not thought of. I do not know if I was bound in the stability mode and will check that out first thing. The Spectrum I use is the model that does not have any curve adjustments to it. My newer radio has all of that but is not part of the Spectrum family so cannot bind to the quad.
I will be checking out those units you suggested and see what is within my budget. Your hint explains my problem to a T- very erratic and if I try to burst up higher I am into the ceiling. and crashing. I have been mostly flying on those days when I could not go outside due to weather so will reverse that and plan on going outside!
    Thanks for the quick response.

Well as a follow up- I have a Sigma X11 on order, along with some spare batteries and parts. I will fly the dickens out of the Blade til the Sigma arrives and maybe can get a handle on the thumbs by then. I also remembered after posting that my radio has a switch that goes from max response or less so assume that may be what I need to check out!
