I have not bought a drone yet because I feel unsatisfied with the idea that is possible to use just that wide angle cameras with few functions to control. I don't want a drone just to get landscapes, I want to get images from impossible points of view of buildings, monuments, etc. I want to have full control from land of a good quality dslr camera using a wi fi system with at least 1 kilometer coverage range. I have spent a lot of time on internet searching but I can´t find anything like. It´s weird what I´m looking for? Should I just buy a drone with a GoPro camera? That´s all?
If you want to fly an SLR you are going to have to spend $5K up for something really decent. Imagine how you will feel when that falls out of the sky due to a short circuit or other problem! As to what you should buy, this depends on your budget and exactly what you want to do with them - and how technical you are. There are lots of options other than GoPro cameras. I fly a Canon S100, which takes some decent still photographs. Some are flying a bigger sensor Ricoh: http://skypixel.org/post/73583365467 This forum covers mostly Ready to Fly units for beginners or intermediate flyers. If you have a larger budget (over $5,000 US), you may want to explore some of the more professional models. A setup to do what you ask could cost 7-10,000.00 US. I have enclosed a downsized picture I took yesterday with the S100 - no post processing, so you can get an idea of the quality or lack of it.
Hi Webman! I appreciate so much your comments. It´s the guide I was looking for. I agree, is a lot of money, but I love photography, and I think about all the things I would like to do with it, also I know is a little bit insane because the most probable is that I will lose my drone sooner or later... but I really want to try it. The picture with the S100 is the kind of quality that I´m looking for. I would like your opinion about two issues: 1) I think that the most difficult to get in this case is to have full control of the camera by wi fi from land at maybe 1500 meters distance. I mean that I want to control, zoom, speed shooting, shutter itself, iso, etc..... 2) Trying to reduce costs (and risks) I found this wifi controlled lense: http://blog.gsmarena.com/leak-sonys-qx100-and-qx10-lens-style-cameras-will-work-with-android-and-ios-cost-500-and-250-respectively/ What do you think about it? In this way I think I can buy a cheap drone, use this relatively cheap and light lense, ... but, again, the main problem is to get control from land so far away.
I don't think those cameras will be a good idea for drones. There is really no advantage and some disadvantages. You are correct about the distance. That is quite far. You will probably have to get something like the DJI Lightbridge to do that: http://www.dji.com/product/dji-lightbridge This setup is going to be quite expensive. There is no cheap or inexpensive way to go 1.5 km away and still have control and view of both of the camera and the drone. A number of pilots of Phantoms have flown that far with FPV - using their own FPV system as opposed to the DJI wireless range extender. Some have made modifications like antenna amplifiers, etc. That's about all the advice I am qualified to give you. As you can see, it takes some experimentation and proper selection of accessories to get the longer range.
Cool videos! thank you so much. I´ll try to get more info following your paths, before choose components. I´ll tell you my choices!
