Help with video quality

I consider myself an intermediate beginner. I started out with a Horizon Inductrix and learned basic maneuvering. Now I am learning to use my Chroma. I am doing alright except for one nagging problem. I can take great stills, but my videos not so good. They are close when unedited, but when I run them through Filmora they come out pixelated and blurry. Even when I post unedited ones on FB or YT they have the same problem.
I don't know if it's my camera settings. It's raining and cloudy as usual for Oregon so most of my videos were taken on cloudy days. I've tried changing the settings but still no success. I will post my best video in hopes someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. I sure do wish there was a comprehensive guide on camera settings for the Chroma CG02 1080p somewhere.

How does the video look when simply played back right off the SD card? What media player are you using?

The video from the SD card isn't bad, but I still seem to have contrast issues. After I run it through Filmora the quality degrades for FB, YT and WMP. I would like to find a comprehensive guide for using the CGO2/3 1080p camera. I think I am just not finding the right camera settings, but I'm also wondering if I made a mistake buying Filmora. I emailed their tech support 3 days ago with no reply so far.

    Thank you for your reply.

You got me looking at other media players. I see 2 that look like they may work, DVDFab and Adobe. I am thinking I should go with Adobe on the media player and video editor, your recommendation?

Well one of the best media players and most complete codec wise, is VLC (free). Not pretty but works well (it's what I've been using for years.)

It's just a player, but a good one to have on your rig.

I can't seem to understand why you are have video issues though. Maybe try posting here.

As far as an editor why not give the free trial of this a run.

This is worth watching for his tips. Note he is using a $240 quad, $70 gimbal and $75 camera.

    Good Luck.

First of all I don't think it's my player, I downloaded real player and there was no difference from the WMP. While the quality seemed to degrade with Filmora I don't think that's the problem. I think the video is flawed but it's hard for me to describe what's going on. There seems to be a slight blink to the whole video and weird lines on the roofs of buildings. I think with Filmora the output is flawed because the original feed is bad. I think it's my camera settings, but at this point I am totally frustrated because I can't find a detailed explanation on which setting is best for any particular condition. I have found the manuals that come with the quads to be next to useless.

All I really want is the recommended camera settings for the 1080p CGO2 on the Chroma. I am really frustrated because I see the great results from other Chroma 1080p video and can't find out how to do that myself.

Thanks for your help so far. I'm sure not getting much from Chroma or Wondershare/Filmora.

Well the reason I suggested VLC is because it's the best player out there... period.

Your stock camera settings should work fine. Try another, brand name, class10 SD card. The Mobius folks recommend Kingston.

Thanks a lot RG, you've fixed 95% of my problems. The other 5% I can figure out by tweaking cam settings. The first problem you fixed was the video editor, Filmora somehow degraded the original feed and tech support hasn't replied to my emails. I like the Corel editor, but I have to wait to pay the $1oo purchase price. The big one was the freaking SD card, and brings up a big DUH! When I unboxed the Chroma I misplaced the included SD card and bought Class4 cards. I didn't know there was even a difference. It would have been nice if Chroma had mentioned that somewhere in their skimpy so-called manual, along with the applications of all the cam settings. But I have yet to see a real detailed manual from any of these drone mfgrs.

    Thanks again RG

    Cool. Your welcome.

With Corel look into using proDAD Mercalli SE, an anti-shake/stabilization filter. There may be some times you want to smooth things out.

    Good luck.

Great that things are working better. One thing I notice with video is that the better rig (cam) I have, the more I want!

When I had a Phantom 2 Vision + I thought that was great video (still do, actually). Then I got the P3 and I thought that was amazing video. Then I looked closely at the 4K from it and found it wanting in many cases. Then I got a large screen iMac Retina and the P3 video looks blurred and shaky!

I found the same thing even with quality still digital cameras. As the editor we (all of us) tend to look at the footage very critically - but when it is put together into a final video it is usually good enough to impress the viewers (the public).

I'm too lazy to do much post - although I am going to experiment with taking more raw (log) video this spring and summer and see if it works out better.

BTW, I'm a mac guy so I use iMovie. I know how to use Final Cut and used to own it (never upgraded) but just don't have the need for that level of tweaking. If I were selling my output I'd probably spring for FC....but, then again, I'd also spring for the Inspire with the 4/3rd if I were getting paid.

I love my Chroma, but I want the Phantom 4 eventually. I now see why I should have got the Chroma with the 4K. I hope to be able to get the P4 in August. I am also going to try for the 333 exception. I have to say that this hobby is turning into an addiction. I still have a long way to go but I am getting better at flying. Western Oregon is a tough place to fly because of all the trees, but the trees are just one reason I love Oregon. dl4.jpg
