Hi thinking about a drone have been a while now. So the first one that caught my eye was the parrot bebop. Now after looking more Ive found myself looking at the phantom 2 and phantom 2 vision plus. Seems to be many models off them about but really I want one that has a guilt in camera. My budget is around about the 750-850 odd mark. So what ones would you guys recommend. Thanks in advance.
I would not suggest the BeBop.....that's a personal opinion, of course, but it's not getting rave reviews and the software has not caught up with the hardware yet. Most experts suggest starting with a toy or two so you can get the hang of R/C flying and control. If you've already done that, you may have more of an idea of what exactly you want. Are you into video or still pictures? Or Both? If that's the primary use of your drone you want a different type of model (more boring) than if you want to race around, demo or FPV. The market right now is quite interesting because there is not too many models in the $500-$900 range with a lot of value (unless, perhaps, you like to hack and program). In terms or RTF (ready to fly) models, I usually suggest a (discontinued) Phantom 1 or Blade 350QX2 - either of which can be had for under $400. These have GPS and will also lift cameras - but not stablized (no gimbal). Another option is the APM-based Iris+, which can be found on sale as low as $599.... However, once you get to over $700 it gets difficult because the new Phantom 3 Advanced ($999) has packed in so many features that nothing else in a camera and video based model can touch it. You are really getting a $1500-$2000 value for $1K. But, again, it depends on your main reasons for entering the hobby. If you like the more technical end of it, you may want other models to modify, build upon, hack and fly fast. I agree with Webman on the BeBop. I am testing one for this site and have not been able to do part two of our review due to many of the failures of the BeBop. I have not been able to save video for some reason, I go to the test site and fly while recording. It looks like it has saved, yet when I get back home to "download" the video to my PC it wont.......Parrots techs are of no help either (I think they are incompetent). I have also come into situations where it just decides to go on its own mission (fly away), no rhyme or reason....it just decides it wants to go somewhere I don't want it to go. So far I have been lucky and have been able to recover it, as in walk "miles" to find it (not really miles and the test site is a very large open field so I can see where it has crashed). As far as DroneFlyers is concerned, the Parrot BeBop is not something that anyone should buy.
I just got an Iris+ and it's great, especially if you have android devices. Phantoms are nice, but open source is the way to go. 3dr dropped the price to $599 down from 750 now that the solo is out. The solo looks good too but it's out of my price range.
What is your recommendation for someone looking at the DJI line but already has GoPro? I ask because I was thinking: Phantom 2, Zenmuse Gimble and iOSD mini + 2.4G Bluetooth Datalink + CAN-Hub (my smart device options are ipad or surface pro 3)

Was just looking at the bebop, as a first venture into an fpv mod, it seems to fit my current budget nicely. But, it looks like its bad... is that still the case? Are there any other good recommendations in that price bracket?
What price bracket exactly? The original BeBop is supposed to be on sale soon for as low as $395. It's OK - but very limited range and control without actual sticks is not as precise. Selection always depends on exactly what you want to do with your model. If actual photography and video is the end use it's really hard to beat the Phantom 3 Standard (budget and feature wise) - it will produce very nice stills and video for $599 (black friday prices)... well looks like the phantom 3 standard does come with everything I want other than a monitor. I'm pretty sure I can find an idevice or android cheap(I use Lumia) so it looks like that decision is made. Need a p3S asap. Lmao
