I am just getting a drone and wanted to get clear on regulations. At the FAA site it says "Recreational operators are required to give notice for flights within five miles of an airport to both the airport operator and air traffic control tower, if the airport has a tower. However, recreational operations are not permitted in Class B airspace around most major airports without specific air traffic permission and coordination."

I got the FAA App B4UFly which helps you make sure you fly safe. At a location I was checking with the APP it lists three "airports" I did not even know existed. They are shown in the app as heliports. There is at least one commercial airport beyond give miles from here and I'm just wondering if a heliport requires notification and is considered an airport. I just got the app and am learning how to use it.

Bingo! I did the same thing.
The App shows 2 nearby "airports" the closest one is really questionable. Looking at the address and then at that address via Google Maps, there is no runway showing even though it shows a 5000 foot north south runway. so I'm ignoring it
the second is over 4 miles away and if you follow the runway landing/ departure straight line. I'm over 3 miles south away from the radial.
this is a private airport and has no facilities, and it has a Mom & Pop owner/manager.
Since it is in the middle of winter and I'm not flying, I'll try calling them when it warms up.
