I just purchased a World Tech Elite Mini Orion Glow-In-The -Dark 2.4GHz 4.5CH HD RC Camera Drone for my 12 yr old grandson. On sale, with store coupons it was $50. I thought it would be a good first drone, but now wondering if this is a good choice? Also, I'm having trouble finding extra batteries for it (3.7V 600 mAh Lithium Ion). I would like to get 4 or 5 with a multi-battery charger, but the only one I've found is from QVC and is $15 for one battery, with no charger available. Are these type of batteries inter-changeable or do I have to purchase the World Tech brand? If so, is there a universal charger that they would fit? I was hoping to stay under $100 for a camera drone, a few extra batteries, and a multi-battery charger. Is this realistic? Thanks so much for any advice on this.
The batteries are interchangeable as long as you get the right voltage (3.7 - single cell) and the right connector and size, of course: If you dig around the net you can usually find a review on the model where they may link to spare batteries (generic). In general, I like to suggest starter drones from the major brands because so many others are private labeled and hard to track down information on. These brands are the ones listed on our "best" page at: https://www.droneflyers.com/2016/12/best-quadcopters-for-2016/ Syma, JJRC, UDI, etc. I saw this answer on Amazon in regards to that model. Question: Type of batteries? Answer: The stock batteries are 600 mah with jst red connections By Jonathan D. on December 10, 2016
That looks like a JXD 509/510 rebadge. These may work. http://www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopter-parts/pp_279073.html?wid=8 Measure your space.
Should be fine as it probably weighs just a few grams more. Going much larger the weight becomes a factor (additional stress on the motors.) With a little luck the 800mAh should give give you at least an additional minute of flight time. BTW it's always a good idea to let the motors cool off for a few minutes when you swap batterries, even the stock ones.
