Question: Are there any technology obstacles to making a Quadcopter (including its various other forms) personal transport device today? Answer: I think there are a number of obstacles, the largest being the very low energy efficiency of most rotor aircraft. Winged aircraft are vastly more efficient (approx. factor of 6-10X). Most aircraft, including heavier quads, use a lot of their power just lifting up their batteries or fuel source. This means the elimination of the human weight and life support systems are one of the best features of drones! Another large obstacle involved the safety and cost of building something to a specification where humans (and insurance companies) could trust their lives to it!
