I have an X5C and an updated version of the U28W that has Altitude hold. I enjoy the X5c, as it lasts a little longer on the battery. but I usually end up using the U28W whenever possible because its simply more fun for me. when I am in a more open area I enjoy flying it using the FPV, but I really need the Alitude hold when doing this (one day I may not, but for now, I do) I would love to find something like it, but bigger (AT LEAST the size of the X5C) and with the Return to Home Function. in short, I am looking for: Altitude Hold FPV with 2mp Camera (and record and take photo, and transfer to phone via the devices Wifi and App) Return to Home at least the size of the X5c, though i would like it to be the size of the X8 series I found an X5HW that claims to have the Return to Home function (other X5HW models dont, so I am unsure if its correct), but the camera is .3mg like my X5C, and I really dont enjoy the video from that camera. the X8 is a more preferred Size, but I am already asking a lot for a cheap price. note, the price of the X5HW is about what I am looking for. Amazon has it for under $60 and I have a $25 gift card. so if I can find it on Amazon, that would be awesome. PS, I also looked at the MJX X401H, and while I prefer the look of the Syma better, this drone would also fit the bill, except it also has a .3mp camera. sorry to bother you all, but I have been searching for days with no luck. I keep finding different models that I have not seen, but there seems to be so much out there, and many variations of those models. its getting a bit overwhelming....
IMHO, none of the RTH functions are much good - without a GPS drone. Most are just sales gimmicks. Altitude hold is another thing - it's a barometer. But how well each model works is unknown....my personal opinion is that toy drones are toy drones...good for learning, but one should move on once they get the basics of operation. Hubsan Quads makes perhaps the most inexpensive true GPS drone...and even that is $150 (best possible sale deal). Something like this is probably the lower end of true altitude hold and 2MP camera: http://amzn.to/2ge4yiR
I am sure you are correct in regards to the RTH function. I have only actually used it on a friends Phantom 3, so I dont know how the toy models would handle it. but I figured if it brings it back pretty close, it would be good enough. really, I just want something that calls it back towards my direction if I accidentally put it into the sun and can't see were the heck it is. I can call it back and start over. on a few occasions I have had the drone "Disappear" on me, still in range of the Transmitter. luckily, it has always been with the U28W and I was able to figure out where it was using the FPV. but a "Safety Net" (RTH feature) would be comforting. I Intend to purchase a better drone. but I wont be able to do so until next Summer (Phantom 4 if I can save up that much, Phantom 3 if not as they seem to be half the cost of the 4 now)
