Hello. 1st post here and I am hoping that someone will be kind enough to give me a little advice please.

I want to buy my 1st drone. I have been with my Son when he has been flying his over our farm and I think it could help us with crops/livestock etc. It would not be used commercially, it is just for my own use. I have done quite a bit or research and on balance I think it would be better to start with something easy. I have looked at the Mavic Pro and while it looks a marvellous piece of kit I'm not sure that it is a beginner's machine. But I could be persuaded otherwise !

I have one major query at the moment. I do not use the type of 'phone that the newer drones all appear to use as a monitor, in fact my 'phone is steam driven - it's that old ! But it does what I want it to do. And so my question is, which drone would anyone suggest that has it's own monitor ? Alternatively, can I obtain a smartphone just for use with the drone or does it need to be switched onto the 'phone network. Sorry but a smart 'phone is just too big for my work. It wouldn't last 5 minutes !

And ideally the drone should have a high definition camera. I should probably admit to being a "senior citizen" but I'm reasonably conversant with PCs and in particular with video editing programs so I'm not entirely a Luddite. Having said that I would only be taking video off the drone and downloading onto a pc.

Thanks in advance for any help that is given.

Mavic has the longest range - which is a plus.
But DJI has a nice unit on their site with a decent range and great camera - called the Phantom 3 SE - and it's only $599.

You will need a device to control it with - but it can be a lower cost used android or IOS machine. For example, an ipad mini 2 would make a great screen for something like this. You can even go a lot cheaper, but sometimes problems crop up with the really low cost tablets.

So you need either a tablet or a phone - the phone does not have to be cellular active as long as it runs the OS (Android).

All in all, tho, IOS is better IMHO.
