Took the after market motor mounts off to see if the glue held the stress fractures together after a couple hours of flight time. The glue held but new cracks developed.

I tried a couple of things myself. What I found to work was some UV epoxy and filled the inside of the arm - around the screw ports. No more cracks, no problems. Used it as a preventive in the new shell i put on a crashed P3P, no cracks there either.

Is there anything between the plastic shell and the motor bottom?

no. Motor mounts directly to the bottom part of the shell. If you have a shell with a ribbed bottom section where themotor is, just put the epoxy all around there up to the top of the ribs. Worked like a charm for me.

Not sure, never took a phantom apart yet.
