Hey guys, I have really been wanting to buy a drone. I have been researching and it looks like the DJI Phantom 3 standard only has a range of .6 miles out of the box. I am really looking for a drone with at least 3 miles and would prefer a drone that doesn't already have a camera since I have a go pro. Does anyone know the range of the Phantom 2? Any advice on a drone with at least 3 miles of range? I'd like to stay around $400 - $500 but Idk if that's possible for what I am looking for. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

How much flying experience do you have? Have you mastered all the basics?

How are you going to see it three miles away? Try and set your sites on learning to fly safely and then see how far away you want o fly.

You can check this Quadcopter Comparison Table, it has specs for many common models.
But as far as I know, no standard quadcopter has such a long range.
Maybe you can start with something with a shorter range and buy some custom hardware?

The DJI Phantom 3 comes with a preattached camera, so I wouldn't recommend it. Your best bet would be a Yuneec Typhoon or a Blade Chroma. Maybe even a Cheerson CX-20 because of their price.

I've been in r/c world for several years. Cars, boats, and several varieties of aircraft. My very first drone. I've been looking at Drone world's Phantom 3 Executive Kit for 2,349.00. is this good "bang for the buck", or extras not needed? I don't mind paying for what i get; but don't need the extra bull for nothing bit. thanks for any help you can provide.

I never buy those kits- maybe it's just me! You went from $500 to $2500 fairly quickly!

Maybe a Phantom 3 Advanced for $799 is the way to go......??

You can get a new Phantom pro 3 right now off ebay for 799 from a known reseller

I was thinking the standard Phantom 3 had a 3 mile range and the 3 pro has like 5 or 6

Huh - both are LOS (line of sight) machines which should be operated in that manner. Very few people can see over about 1/2 mile.
In certain conditions the lightbridge may transmit for a mile or more but this has nothing to do with range.

Range must be more accurately defined as how the machine can be reliably and legally used on a day to day basis. It's always good to be conservative with these numbers. A mile is probably the far end of what the lightbridge equipped units can handle and the wifi units can become unreliable at even 1/2 that or less.
