I just found this web, after spending too much money on drones that I cannot fly! My one posting got a great response and I have ordered another quad, the difference being it is for a new guy like me. I do fly fixed wing but am not terrific, I just fly through the sky and have fun. I have always been intrigued by the quads and what can be done with them, now I may even get to enjoy them.
Me: a widower that is 71 and a snowbird. I do not like cold as it keeps me from riding my recumbent trike, swimming in a pool and flying! I look forward to meeting several of you via this group!

What did you order? I got a Hubsan Quads X4 a couple of weeks ago and am learning to fly it indoors.

    Hi Brad,
I got the Sigma x 11, one of the suggested ones by our fearless leader on this outstanding web. It will be here around the 11th so, after I was informed of the several errors I was making with my Blade Nana QX I will fly the dickens out of it till the real trainer gets here. I had the radio set up for expert (I think) and was attempting to fly it indoors with way too much response dialed in. I looked at the Hubsan Quads as well, but I got more stuff for the money when I added in the spare batteries, a rebuild kit with many props and 2 motors etc. I had the Hubsan Quads all ready to check out and Amazon hit me with that others are looking at this window. Glad they did though I hear either is a terrific starter from the guys on this web. One hint I got was when it is calm outside you do a lot less damage on grass and it responds differently too.

    Good luck on learning!

I tend to lose mine outside, once for 3 days before I found it. I am 64 so for us old dogs learning new tricks takes a little longer. I want to get a http://www.amazon.com/DJI-Phantom-Advanced-Quadcopter-Camera/dp/B00VSIT5UE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1441646457&sr=8-2&keywords=phantom+3 next summer after learning on this little thing.

Oh to be so young! Got you beat by 7 years and I am legally blind in my what used to be prominent eye. I too hope to some day fly one of the big boys and hopefully by the time I can they will be down in cost. I have been retired for a long long time and unfortunately my employer that had a retirement program went bankrupt 4 years after I left. Lost 40% of my retirement and all of my healthcare, dental and eye care. But I am still able to have more than my share of fun, thank God I had a 401 as well. Will have to see if I lose my quad in the outdoors too!!

Terry Heller, from Pennsylvania...Brookhaven to be exact. It is a small borough at the very south east corner of the state. I have no experience flying any kind of RC at all until I purchased my DJI Phantom 3 Pro last week. I am shocked at how "easy" it has been, skip a few small backyard crashes. I bought it for personal use and to shoot local events at no charge. Eventually, I may enter it commercially. I am 42, work in mortgages, and have several sports-related hobbies. Hello, all!

Hi all. Love this site. Got the drone bug fairly recently and am really loving it. Just flying inexpensive toy drones for the time being, but am looking forward to graduating to something legit once I stop crashing and getting stuck in trees.

Just here from Bermuda where the UAV (Drone) hobby is starting to take off but regulations are crazy. I have been into R/C hobby for years from electric buggies and trucks to gas boats and nitro buggies.

Hello. I'm new in this forum and also with drones. I am an RC enthusiast. I have helicopters 450 and 500 size all of them builded by me. foam board planes 4 ch, and rc electric cars. Everything electric. and I just finish to set all my new octocopter but I'm not sure if this thing is gonna fly. Maybe someone can tell me if I can try it with this setup.
Everything is ready. DJI A2 controller already setup. I just have to hover to set the gains, but the rest are ready. I'm so afraid to fly it because I don't know if something is gonna explode in the air.....
Of. Full weight with camara + gimbal + 2 main lipos in paralell + 1 lipo 4s for retractable landing gear + 3s lipo for tv = 9.8 KG (21 lb )
    Motors. Turnigy multistar 4830 - 420KV ---Max Amp. 29 ---Power 650 W ---work current 21A ---Int resistance 0.080 ohm ---- 22 poles
ESC. Rc timer 40A opto HVSK 40A simonK opto ....that's what it is written there.
Propellers. Rc timer 14x5.5 Carbon Fiber. I can't go bigger for the space between propellers. Here I have almost 1/2 inch between them
    2 lipos in paralell. 6s 9000 mah (x2)= 18.000 mah. 25C. max 50C ( the 4s and 3s lipos are for extras ).
Ok I just want to know if this thing can fly without to much stress with that setup. actually I don't know if as in the helicopters have to hover at the middle of the throttle stick or not.
Thanks but I just watch a youtube video of drones crashes and I don't want to crash in my first attemp.
Sorry for my english. I'm from Colombia, Thanks

    Hey from North Texas.
I have an inexpensive UDI818 I'm learning on then looking at an FPV setup on something like a DJI.
Is there a good reference to FPV options someone could point to?

    Thanks

Hi I'm Jeff. I have been doing RC trucks and boats for quite some time and now I want to fly.
I started with a cheap quad from Walmart ($20), last month I picked up an Ominus FPV. I was looking at the AEE AP10 as a next step then earlier this month i stumbled across the Aries Blackhawk X10 (same as AEE just black) and bought it at a great price ($389). I will be posting lots of questions as I prepare to take it on its first flight.
I want to eventually get a Phantom 3 advanced.

    Thanks

Hi just joined, haven't bought my first one yet. Was looking at the Syma xc-1. Is there anything better than it for approximately the same price?
