Gday guys, I'm new to this forum. Not even sure if I am writing this in the right place. Have had a Parrot Bebop drone for the past few months and love it so much... Hearing so much about the Phantom and looking at saving up for that later this year. Hope to get to know you guys too. Cheers!

Its been an exciting creative process and I've loved exploring the drone community. If you want to check out the website, its flywithforce.com , Let me know what you think of the designs or pick something up. Fly On.

Hi, I am from Ontario, Canada. I've played with many different RC toys. Started many years ago when a father of a friend of mine was talking about inspecting sewage and water pipes. I suggested him to use cameras, and perhaps put a camera on an RC car. He knew I tinkled with electronics, so he paid me to build one. After that I built over 50 of them to a bunch of different companies.
Now I am looking for my first drone. I have been asked to get some aerial footage by someone. This will be a one time event, but I have been given a budget of $2000USD. I'll try to stick within this budget, but since the drone will be mine after completed work, I don't mind spending a few bucks more. So I've been contemplating to get the Phantom 3 advanced. Or perhaps the Phantom 2 and put a camera on it myself. Any suggestions here? Better to get a drone with manufacturer's camera or add it separately?

I suggest you to get a quad racer and learn how to assemble, fly, fix etc
DJI is too costly to break it lol.
    Cheers.

I've worked with a lot of different RC planes and choppers. So I think I have the assembly and fixing portions covered.

Hello everyone. I am a new quad enthusiast. In the past i got myself into simple robotics. I am an Applied Informatics student and would like to get more involved in the autonomy-automation industry.

You won't be sorry if your intention is to take pics and videos. Of course, it would still be good to practice with (and destroy) some toy quads first just to keep your fingers and eyes in sync and learn the ropes. Many pilots find a P3 much easier to fly than the toys because of the various sensors built in (GPS, barometer, etc.).

Back when the Apple Mac was introduced, Steve Jobs called it "the first computer good enough to criticize", meaning that it still had lots of faults but was at least capable of serving as a tool to regular users. In many ways the Phantom 3 is similar. It does take study and reading of the manual and online tips and hints - but for those who actually want to use it as intended (flying tripod), it should satisfy.

Thanks for the input. I may do that as it would be next summer before I have the money for the Phantom 3. What toy would you recommend?

Depends if you are flying indoors or out. The Hubsan Quads X4 is fairly solid for indoor and even some outdoor close-in flight.
A lot of people like the Syma X5.
In any case, always expect to learn how to repair them (motors, etc.) since they will likely need it. Buy some spare parts (motors) along with your purchase if you don't want to wait for parts.

Sometimes I just buy two of the same machine - use the extra for a second battery and parts!

Hi everyone! I am blackhawk, I am an aerospace toolmaker and have several years experience in commercial fixed wing aircraft. I am on my very first quadcopter, the Syma X8W. I love it because of how forgiving it is, but now I am on the fast track to overhaul it until I am bored with it. Currently I ditched the fpv setup for a more powerful external unit with 7" lcd and 700tvl with a boscam trans/rec.. I will post my build to YouTube and link it here throughout, when the kit arrives tomorrow.
    Cheers!

Hi, just looking for a place to hang out. Got a number of toys and a beat up tricopter. Trying to fly like Mr. Simplecopter is no easy task. :)
