I'd go for the Phantom 1 - DJI is producing them again and calling them trainers.

It's probably the most reliable and useful machine out there for the <$500 price.
    DJI Products Page

Go to the DJI Store link there - and you will see the P1

Hi webman is the dji p1 worth having or should I add another 200 pound and go the whole hog for a p2?

I like the 350, but it's not as reliable of a workhorse as the P1. Still, if you want a bit more sportiness, it's a possibility.

The FC40 includes a camera - they are not making it any longer, but you can find some around. I'd rather have regular P1 and put various cams on it.

The p1 is nowhere near as fragile and is very good for learning and for lifting various still cameras. The only thing it doesn't do is come standard with the gimbal.

I'd say it always depends on your exact planned use - the p1 is great for flying around with various cameras and it will take a crash much better than a P2. You will feel more confident flying it in various weather and scenarios. BUT, if what you want to do is mostly take smooth video - they save up for Phantom Vision+.

There have been some good deals on new (old stock) 350 QX2 models - on ebay and elsewhere. I had bought one for $250 and then bought a DX5e for $70 - so only had a total of $320 invested. Here is a UK used one....I bought mine when it was used a couple times and then sold it in perfect condition for $200

Cheers my exact use is mainly for fun and few pics as I get all the aerial shots I want as I'm a helicopter pilot by day bit I like the idea of being able to have GPS lock and remain in hover and the return home mode
P2 vision plus it is then they will be on offer at gadget show !
