BestBuy has, according to multiple reports, removed the GoPro Karma from their web site. Other reports suggest that the product has been recalled.
UPDATE – this now seems confirmed by GoPro…see below:
At approx. 3:00PM EST it was reported by several shoppers that the product disappeared from the BestBuy web site. A check of the BB web site shows that most Karma drone product has been removed – in fact, an error page is generated (see below).
At approx. 5PM an owner reported visiting his local BestBuy (where he had purchased his Karma) and speaking to the Manager. The report is as follows:
“According to the Best Buy in Tulsa they (Karma) have been recalled. They had 2 on the shelf, he scanned one and immediately pulled them both and said they have been recalled and cannot sell what they have. “
The recall comes after numerous crashes and flyaways have been reported – both on Youtube and GoPro’s own forums. Crashes appears to be related to power loss – and flyaways related more to GPS and loss of R/C control (as well as failure of RTH functions).
The recall comes as GoPro is already reeling from delays and production/supply hiccups related to both Karma and the newer Hero5 cameras. For more information on the history of the GoPro drone program, see our detailed article.
