I just can't decide between the DJi Mavic pro and the Phantom 4. I've watched tons of comparison and review videos. I've been wanting a camera drone for yearsand I'm definitely buying one in the next month or 2. I have no experience. My wife buys me a cheap little rc helicopter for christmas every year, but it's time to step up from toys to a serious camera drone. Most of the comparisons I've seen say the same thing. The Phantom 4 is a little better, but if the reviewer had to choose, they would take the Mavic. I know the Phantom is more expensive, but I don't want to buy the Mavic and wish I would have spent the extra money for a better drone. Please help me choose.

If the camera is the most important thing, then the Phantom 4 Pro to be sure. It is a much larger sensor and the video/photo quality is noticeably better.

That portabilty/ease of use thing is no joke - as the saying goes: you can't take a picture with the camera you left at home.

I was in the midst of ordering the Phantom 4 Pro when I decided the size and portability of the Mavic means I will use it more. While I'll be less than totally satisfied with the video/photo quality, at least I'll be "out there" flying the thing. And that's important.

Be aware that some people have to send their Mavic's back after one of two quality problems:
    - Video quality is poor: something is defective and the video system must be replaced or repaired.
    - Optical defects that cause one corner to be sharp and the opposite to be soft.

If I had "mission critical" photography to do: Phantom 4 Pro.

If I want to learn to fly a drone the "DJI way" with least hassle: Mavic Pro.

I'm in the same boat as you but I'm also looking at the Phantom 3... Just because of money. I can't see myself spending $1100 on a hobby that I haven't even started yet. But then like you, I don't want to spend $500 then in a couple of months like flying so much that I want to buy the Mavic.
