Looking for some answers to the hobby and the FAA regulations:

1.) When the regulations state that you can't fly over private property, isn't private property basically anywhere other than your friends 10 acre ranch or AMA required RC field?

2.) Should I even attempt this hobby if such regulations are in place?

3.) I see people asking about FPV units and suggestions on what to use - per the regulations aren't these basically banned?

I really want to get involved in this and make my own as I've done the research on the components but if I can't even fly over the local corn fields as its private property what's the point.

Private property does not own the airspace over it!
Of course, you don't want to buzz the trees over others houses - but flying high over others property is no different than the airlines, helicopters or private aviation doing so.
Regulations are in flux but it is looking like a "micro" rule was just inserted which would make anything under 2 KG exempt from most regs.

As far as places to fly - this always depends on where you live. You have to be creative and look for the proper places and times. Sometimes your public schools will have large unused fields (weekends). Sometimes there are old abandoned properties, county parks and other such places.

FPV is actually tougher in that it may require more flying space and you'll want to be closer to the ground. With Aerial Photography you are often flying higher so overflying private property is not a big deal (in general I try to stay at 200+ feet high over private properties).
