V222 problems

Im very new to quadcopters. I have, actually had an X4. It is a tree now and I'm awaiting a replacement. I decided to get something a little larger so bought a V222 from Banggood. It will fly fine and then drop to the ground, in complete control, at random times. I bought the switchable transmitter because I had read it was much better but it didn't fix the problem. So far Banggood has not offered to help and I don't want to keep throwing money at it. I want to get a phantom when I can fly better. I assume it is the controller that is bad. An thoughts?

You are probably correct - some companies have stopped selling WL toys because of repeated QC problems. This particular problem is one many people reported - you'd think WL would have fixed it by now!

If you bought it in the last 30 days I'd fight with them a bit or dispute your paypal.

Are you flying in an area with a lot of other wifi signals? It may be worth your while to take it somewhere with less wifi and see if it works. But there are lots of reported problems.....

I wish there were some more reliable machines around in that size range! Even the $150 Alias reports vast numbers of problems with premature motor burnout.

Oh, not to spend good money after bad, but the Syma models have been very very reliable for me and others....inexpensive also.

My other choice was the Syma X5C but I saw a video comparing the two and they like the V222 much better. Guess I should have looked further.

Still getting the run around from Banggood. Here is the latest email. Not sure what a video would prove.

    Dear Bob,

    Thanks for your email.

I'm sorry to hear that.Would you please take a video for the default item SKU065514 in order 3069762 ,SKU082049 in order 3199008 and the shipping label to show the problem? Then give us the link? We will do our best to solve this problem.Kindly hope your support and understand.

Well I finally got Banggood to say that they were sending another controller/receiver board. In the mean time I had bought one and installed it and it still drops from the sky. Today it almost flew away before I got control back. So I've used two different transmitters and now two controller/receiver boards so it must be where I live. This is surprising since I'm in the middle of nowhere, 8600 ft in the mountains. In any case it flies OK in the house so the V222 and my X4 (which flies great BTW) will be my training Quads and I just bought a Eye One Xtreme and bound it to a Taranis transmitter and it flies like a dream.

8600 ft in the mountains, that is your problem.

At that height the motors have to spin at close to max RPM in-order to lift the UAV into the air (air is less dense the higher the altitude).

You may try a propeller with more pitch, this will help but it would require some experimentation to find the right one. You may even try larger diameter same pitch.

What your trying to do is get the same amount of lift at sea level that it had with stock propellers with higher pitch or diameter for your 8600 ft altitude.

Yes, it certainly takes more power to lift at this altitude. However it flies fine in the house and it flies fine outside, for, sometimes, a minute or two until it drops w/o a throttle movement. Also been flying without the camera and chassis and still does it. Also my X4 and my Eye One Xtreme both fly great, although maybe they have more power to weight. Now I guess it could be the wind outside but I have flown in very calm conditions and it still drops without a control input and won't react to full throttle.

Not knowing your area, but it could be in the house your shielded from stray radio / WiFi signals. Out side your getting hit with lots of radio interferance.

If you can try to keep "line of sight" outside, a tree or bush in-between you and the UAV can make your radio signal drop out (one of the 2.4 Ghz and higher problems). You may even try a booster on the hand held to get a stronger signal.
