Trying to decide between DJI Phantom and Blade 350 QX. DJI has a return home feature in the event signal is lost. Blade has a return home feature but it looks like you have to maintain signal contact with drone in order to activate it. Apparently the Phantom will automatically sense lost signal and direct itself to return. Is this right?? Thanks.

My choice would be the Phantom. I think this video shows the reasons well.

hoping it is okay to add this.

Which exact blade model were you looking at?

They do the same - when the TX is off...

    Loss of Transmitter Signal
If the transmitter signal is lost for any reason, the 350 QX will respond according
    to the following conditions:

    • If the motors are not turning, the 350 QX will disarm.
    • If the motors are turning but the 350 QX is not fl ying, it will turn off the motors
    and disarm.
    • If the 350 QX is fl ying and has a good GPS lock with a home position set,
it will activate the Return Home function upon the loss of the transmitter
    signal.

Thanks. That's exactly what I was hoping to learn. I am looking at 350 QX so your response was perfect!

The best course of action is never to get your quad in a position where you 100% need the RTF - and especially not to need to turn the TX off. It may work....or it may not, because other factors are at play (low battery, bad GPS lock, etc.)

Get it back the old fashioned way - don't fly it too far and bring it back under your control....

The blade RTH is actually more useful in everyday flying since it can be tripped with a switch that you hold and it instantly takes effect....so you can put it into use just for a 30 seconds or so until the quad gets closer to you and then leave go of the switch and take manual control.

I've never done that with my Phantom....the one time I used RTH it was already low battery so it just landed right where it was (in a big batch of trees). That was my luckiest landing ever! Check it out.
